Rongker Karkli Performed At Karbi Anglong Villages

DIPHU, Feb 5: Rongker Karkli – a sacrificial worship to appease the local deities was performed in Karbi villages on Saturday. The earlier Rongker Karkli was performed on January 5, but the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council has changed the date to February 5. The KAAC has declared a public holiday on Saturday to perform Rongker Karkli.

At Council Colony here the Council Colony Rongker Karkli was performed by offering sacrifice to Hemphu, Mukrang, Rasinja and other local deities like Inglongkiri, Diphu Athan and Murti. Village headman and traditional priest Dhonsing Teron, Bimal Bey, Ramsing Teron and Rupsing Ronghang performed the sacrifice by offering goat, pig, fowls and hens.

At Lorulangso, Rongkethe the Rongker Karkli was performed at the Rongker ground. It is the 50th year of Rongker Karkli being performed by the villagers.

Hemphu, Mukrang, Rasinja and local deities like Diphu than, Inglongkiri Ariso, Numaligarh Than, Tiki Anglong, Longke Ahi-ih and Singram Recho were offered with pig, goat, fowls and hens. Traditional priests Aboron Teron, Longki Tokbi, Bikha Timung, Harlongki Bey, Mondol Bongrung, Longkiri Tisso and village headman Mohon Teron performed the sacrifice.

Being the 50th year the villagers have organised a special programme by conducting games and sports to children and women. The Rongker Karkli committee felicitated those HSLC and HS passed candidates and those persons who have cleared in various competitive examinations.

In the public meeting cum prize distribution was attended by executive member (EM), KAAC, Ratan Teron; adviser, Lorulangso, Rongkethe village, Lunse Timung and village headman, Mohon Teron.

Later, the villagers had a community feast with the prepared pork, chicken, mutton and rice. Rice beer was also served.
