DIBRUGARH, Oct 24: In a joint operation based on specific intelligence inputs, security forces have busted an alleged supply chain of the ULFA-Independent (ULFA-I) in Nampong under Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, arresting four individuals and seizing a large quantity of medical supplies and essential goods near the Myanmar border.
The arrested have been identified as Jitu Moran alias Moina (50), Julie Gogoi (38), Dipak Gogoi (52), and Yanshay Sokrang.
According to police, Julie Gogoi has been running a grocery shop in Nampong since 2001 and is suspected to have been involved in facilitating supplies.
Officials stated that the operation was launched after credible intelligence suggested that ULFA-I’s self-styled Major General Arunodoi Dohutia had demanded medicines and other provisions from a resident of Tinsukia, Assam.
“We have also detained four Myanmarese nationals for allegedly transporting goods to ULFA camps across the border,” said an official.
A substantial quantity of medical supplies and essential items, meant for delivery to militant hideouts, was seized from the spot. Investigation is underway.
In a separate counter-insurgency operation on Tuesday night, one ULFA-I militant was neutralised in a gunfight with security forces led by Assam Rifles personnel at 6 Mile area under Namsai police station in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh.
“Assam Rifles had received a tip-off regarding the presence of six to seven ULFA-I cadres in the 6 Mile Lekang Khampti area.
Based on the information, a joint team launched an operation during which one cadre was killed,” a police official said.
Security forces have intensified surveillance and combing operations in the Arunachal-Assam border region following the incident.
