Senior journalist Ratul Deka dies in road accident

MORIGAON, Aug 28: The body of senior journalist Ratul Deka was found on the road in the Tenguri area of Morigaon town. His body was discovered covered in blood. He was rushed to the Morigaon Civil Hospital, but doctors declared him dead. After the news of Deka’s death spread, a large number of leaders and activists from various political parties and organisations rushed to the Morigaon Civil Hospital. The body of the young journalist was taken to the AASU office by a procession after the post-mortem. His body was also taken to Morigaon Sadar Bihutali. The event was attended by district commissioner Debashis Sarma, additional district commissioner Dr Sangita Barthakur, additional superintendent of police Samiran Baishya, Assam Sahitya Sabha Propaganda Sub-Committee executive president Ajit Sharma, mass advisor Bubumani Goswami, Rickshaw Drivers Association, Jagiroad Press Club, Moirabari Press Club, Marwari Youth Forum, Morigaon Sports Association, Writers’ Conference, Gyanmanjuri Chakra, Youth Journalists Forum, Chambers of Commerce, Nath Yogi Sammelan, Alumni Association, ETV, the late Deka’s family, Morigaon Sakha Sahitya Sabha, representatives of more than half a hundred political parties, and many others who paid their respects to the late Ratul Deka. The body of the journalist was taken to his temporary residence at Tenguri and then to his birthplace, Jaluguti, where the Tiwa Sahitya Sabha Jaluguti Branch, Jaluguti Anchalik Swamaj Sahitya Sabha, Jaluguti Mandal Congress Committee, Jaluguti New Star Club, BJP Minority Youth Morcha, Jaluguti Royal Club, Jaluguti Super Star Club, Jaluguti Anchalik College Management Committee, Jaluguti Gaon Panchayat, and Puja Samiti paid their last respects. The body was later taken to his birthplace, Cholapar village, at Jaluguti for cremation. He is survived by his wife, two children, and a large family. Deka worked for several news agencies, including ETV Bharat and Ishan News.

The death of journalist Ratul Deka was mourned by Public Relations minister Pijush Hazarika, Morigaon MLA Ramakant Dewri, Laharighat MLA Dr Asif Mohammad, and MP Pradyut Bordoloi.
