GUWAHATI, Jan 17: Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty inaugurated the district-level competition of Assam Sanskritik Mahasangram 2023-24 at Bongo Bhaban in Silchar on Wednesday. The event included competitions in Jyoti Sangeet, Rabha Sangeet, and Bhupendra Sangeet.
As the chief guest, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty said that January 17 is celebrated as ‘Silpi Divas’ across the state, marking the death anniversary of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. He expressed gratitude to district commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha for organising the first day of the competition on ‘Silpi Divas’.
During the inauguration, Chakraborty paid tribute to poets and artists such as Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwal, and Dr Bhupen Hazarika. He encouraged the future generations to follow the path of these great personalities to enrich the culture and art of the district.
MLA Dipayan Chakraborty also thanked chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his initiatives and efforts to develop the state in various areas, including art, culture, sports, education, health, and infrastructure.
Chakraborty likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a popular global leader and credited him for promoting India’s development, allowing the country to achieve a special place in the world economy. He also urged people to light five lamps in every house on January 22, marking the auspicious occasion of the establishment of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
District commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha explained the purpose of the event, mentioning that around 8,500 participants took part in the competition at the Gaon Panchayat level in Cachar. The district-level competition marked the culmination of group-based competitions, and winners at this level can progress to the state-level competition. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners in each category.
Other dignitaries, including Cachar superintendent of police Numal Mahatto, district BJP president Bimalendu Roy, APDCL director Nitya Bhushan Dey, Lakhipur Municipality chairman Mrinal Kanti Das, and officials of the district administration, attended the event. The district-level competition commenced after the inauguration, with participants competing in Jyoti Sangeet, Bhupendra Sangeet, and Rabha Sangeet categories.
