SIVASAGAR, Sept 3: The 86th birthday of ‘Arjun’ Bhogeswar Baruah was celebrated in Sivasagar, where he is revered as a legendary runner. The day, known as Abhiruchi Day, saw a significant gathering of prominent sports personalities, sports organisers, students, and sports enthusiasts at the Rangpurjyoti Club premises.
Several former national players, including Rajani Chetia, Mina Saikia, Pranab Das, Sunni Barua, and Prasanna Das, participated in lighting the ceremonial Olympic flame. The marathon was flagged off by Aswini Kumar Doley, CEO, Sivasagar Zila Parishad, and it concluded at the massive statue of Bhogeswar Baruah on the banks of the Sivasagar Borpukhuri.
Many notable individuals from the town, such as Punaram Mili, Babul Khan, Rana Khan, Manoj Kr Borthakur, Dhananjay Saikia, Inamul Hazarika, Jayanta Rajkumar, Dharani Chetia, Somesh Deka, Govin Bora, Jayjyoti Gogoi, Bhoirab Munda, along with representatives from various clubs, participated in the marathon.
Mina Baruah, during the celebration, ceremonially cut the birthday cake in honour of ‘Arjun’ Bhogeswar Baruah’s 86th birth anniversary.
