BILASIPARA, Feb 25: In a significant crackdown on illegal cattle smuggling, Bilasipara Police apprehended three persons and rescued six cattle during an operation conducted along National Highway 17. A Scorpio vehicle allegedly used for transporting the cattle was also seized.
According to police sources, the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of smuggled cattle from West Bengal into Assam. Acting swiftly, police intercepted a Scorpio bearing registration number AS 01 AU 7975 and recovered six cattle that were allegedly being transported illegally.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sanowar Hussain, Anowar Hussain and Bahar Ali, all residents of Kathaldi village. They were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the illegal transportation of cattle. Preliminary investigation indicates that the cattle were being transported from West Bengal to the char (riverine) areas of Bilasipara. Police suspect the involvement of a wider interstate smuggling network. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
