GUWAHATI, Oct 16: In a significant development, the Guwahati Police have solved the Anjan Nath murder case with the arrest of six suspects.
Among the accused is Sourabh Goenka, believed to be the lover of Geetashree Sinha, who played a central role in the chilling crime.
The investigation has uncovered a premeditated plan to eliminate Anjan Nath, who was in a relationship with Geetashree.
Addressing a press conference, Guwahati police commissioner Diganta Borah gave the details of the murder mystery, which took place on October 12.
Anjan Nath and Geetashree Sinha, who were not married, had a tumultuous relationship marked by reported issues related to Anjan’s alcohol consumption. Their families were also known to be at odds.
The weapon used to commit the crime, a locally made firearm from Bihar, has been seized, Borah said, adding that it was procured by one Govind Kumar.
Interestingly, Geetashree’s sister was implicated in the conspiracy.
Sourabh Goenka, a dry fruits businessman in the Fancy Bazar area with a monthly salary of around Rs 25,000, emerged as a key figure in the case. Police investigations indicate that Geetashree’s parents, Ajit and Jharna Sinha, disapproved of her relationship with Anjan due to his financial and alcohol-related problems.
They allegedly orchestrated a plan to remove him from their daughter’s life.
The sinister plot unfolded over a month and a half. Initially, Ajit Sinha attempted to poison Anjan with contaminated pills provided by a charmer (Bej). When this failed, a more sinister plan was hatched. During police interrogations, Ajit Sinha confessed to his role in the murder, the top police official said.
On the fateful night, Anjan Nath was fatally shot by Sourabh Goenka, with assistance from Govinda Kumar and Arvinda Ray. These shocking revelations came to light just moments before the police arrested the accused individuals. Geetashree Sinha, along with her parents, Ajit Sinha and Jharna Sinha, were taken into custody.
The murder weapon has been seized by the police, and additional evidence will be presented in court as the case unfolds, Borah added.
