DIPHU, Dec 23: The attack on the ancestral home of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang by a mob on December 22 has been condemned by social organisations in Karbi Anglong.
In the incident, a mob surrounded Ronghang’s residence at Artukekang, West Karbi Anglong and set it on fire. Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) and Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA), in a press conference at the KCS office on Monday evening, urged caution on both sides.
KCS secretary Sunil Tokbi said, “The picking up of hunger strikers at dawn by the authorities should not have been done. However, the attack on the CEM’s house is wrong.” The press conference was attended by KLA president Kamsing Hanse and former KCS president Chandra Sing Kro.
In a separate press briefing, Karbi Students Association president Buddha Terang said, “We support the demand, but the CEM’s ancestral home should not have been burnt. The demand led by Litsong Rongophar is finished with the attack on the CEM’s residence. We have no place for imitating the arson in Nepal and Bangladesh.”
