Sonitpur KVK celebrates Poshan Maah as part of Amrit Brikshya Andolan

TEZPUR, Sept 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur organised a full-day program in Dighiljuli village, Sonitpur, to commemorate chief minister Hemanta Biswa Sharma’s historic Amrit Brikshya Andolan. The event also included an awareness program focusing on ‘Nutrition-Rich India, Educated India, and Empowered India’, along with a tree plantation program to celebrate Poshan Maah.

The Amrit Brikshya Andolan was initiated by the state’s chief minister with the goal of planting one million commercial trees throughout the state. This initiative highlights the importance of social forestry in environmental conservation and livelihood generation. At the start of the program, Angana Sarmah, head in charge of KVK Sonitpur, welcomed the participants and emphasised the significance of planting saplings on this historic day.

During the event, Pompy Borah, program assistant at KVK Sonitpur, engaged with participants to discuss the celebration of Poshan Maah and the critical role of nutrition in human growth and development. To align with the focus of Poshan Maah 2023, which aims to raise awareness about vital life stages, such as pregnancy, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, a hundred Malbhog banana saplings were distributed among the participants.

Dr Namita Dutta, subject matter specialist in Soil Science, provided insights into the planting and management of Mahogany plants. A hundred Mahogany saplings were distributed among the participants. As part of the program, a tree plantation drive was carried out on the premises of KVK Sonitpur.

Dr Ranjit Bordoloi, subject matter specialist in Fisheries Science, highlighted the potential of fishery as an enterprise for livelihood generation. He also emphasised the formation of Farmers Producer Companies (FPC).

Over seventy people actively participated in the program and contributed to the successful tree plantation initiative.
