TEZPUR, Feb 9: A mass awareness programme on child marriage and substance abuse under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was held on Thursday at Bhujkhowa Sirajiya ME School, Bhomoraguri, near here. The event was organised by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Department of Women and Child Development, and Sonitpur district administration in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit.
Chief executive officer of Sonitpur Zila Parishad Karabi Saikia Karan, additional district commissioner in charge of Women and Child Development Kabita Kakoti Konwar, DLSA member, CWC chairperson, deputy superintendent of police, representative of DCPU, clinical psychologist (LGBRIMH), AAMSU representatives, DACRC representative, PRI members, community cadres of ASRLM Sonitpur, Sonitpur district social welfare officer, Ruby Kalita, attended as guests in the programme.
The day-long programme encompassed a rally on child marriage and prevention of substance abuse by AWWs and students, which was inaugurated by DSWO Sonitpur and the head teacher of the school. This was followed by awareness sessions on child marriage and its negative impacts along with legislations associated with child rights and child protection by CWC, DCPU, awareness sessions on substance abuse and its negative impacts along with legislations associated with it by clinical psychologist and DACRC, open quiz competition among the participants, felicitation of girl/women achievers from Bhujkhowa village from different backgrounds like entrepreneurship, education, social service, screening of the ‘Xohai’ documentary developed by Directorate of WCD for showcasing the ground realities of a village and the role of the stakeholders associated, and presentation of a skit on prevention of child marriage & substance abuse, violence against women and girls, anemia reduction by AWW/AWHs.
Students and teachers of the schools, imam, kazi, junabs of the locality, and local community people took part in the events as participants.
