Sonitpur Police Cracks Down Major Car And Bike Lifter’s Gang

Tezpur, July 30: In the last couple of days Sonitpur police has cracked down a major car/bike lifter’s gang and arrested seven car/bike lifters from different parts of the state in connection to it. Sonitpur Police revealed that  acting on a  tip off an operation party of Sonitpur Police, led by additional SP (HQ), Sonitpur along with deputy SP(HQ), Sonitpur, OC Tezpur PS, OC Dhekiajuli PS, IC Bebejia out post nabbed altogether seven such culprits.

They were later identified as  Jitu Das of Rupnagar under Udalguri PS in Udalguri district, Lukash Narzary of Jordanpur under Dhekiajuli PS in Sonitpur District, Raju Saikia of Barhampur, under Nagaon PS in Nagaon district, Bhaskar Kalita of Dehingia Kalita Gaon under Tezpur PS in Sonitpur district, Nijwm Basumatary of Bishnupur, Rangapara, Suriyabil under Rangapara PS in Sonitpur District, Md. Khalilut Uddin of Garu Duba under Thalamara PS in Sonitpur district and Pradip Tamang under Namchi PS in  South Sikkim District.

During the operation police recovered a total of 10 (ten) nos. of motorcycles hided and sold to various persons. In this connection Police urged the citizens of Sonitpur to get the NOC from RTO while purchasing a second hand bike or any vehicle also checking the engine and chassis numbers with registration certificate of the vehicle and collect form 16 from the registered owner since receivers of stolen motorcycles are equally punishable with the lifter.
