DIBRUGARH, Dec 14: The Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) has formed a special team named “DMC Enforcement Squad” to monitor encroachment of the foot-paths and unauthorised roadside shops.
Initially, the team consists of five men and four women who will closely monitor the illegal encroachment.
Recently, DMC has been conducting eviction drive to clear unauthorised shops which are mushrooming in the footpaths and rods in Dibrugarh town.
“We appreciate the steps taken by DMC to monitor the illegal footpath and roadside encroachment illegally by certain vendors. In New Market area the footpaths were encroached by the vendors which is meant for pedestrian,” said Rakesh Talukdar, a resident of Dibrugarh town.
DMC mayor Dr Saikat Patra said that they have started the eviction drive to clear roads and footpaths which are illegally occupied by vendors.
“Most of the roads of Dibrugarh are narrow due to the illegal encroachment which causes inconvenience to the public to pass the roads,” said Patra.
