Suklabaidya distributes Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award at Cachar

GUWAHATI, Dec 13: A distribution ceremony of scooty under the Dr Banikanta Kakoti Merit Award under Pragyan Bharati Scheme was held at the auditorium of Gurucharan College here on Tuesday, which was organised by the district administration Cachar to distribute scooters amongst the meritorious students.
Minister for Fishery, Excise and Transport, Parimal Suklabaidya graced the occasion as the chief guest of the function in presence of MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty; deputy commissioner, Rohan Kumar Jha and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, minister for Forest, Environment, Excise and Fishery Parimal Suklabaidya said, “Under the dynamic leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, the entire Barak Valley has received tremendous developments in the field of education and gained importance in terms of infrastructure.”
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, minister Suklabaidya said, “We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.”
Minister Suklabaidya said that a lot of initiatives were taken up by the present government for the development of education. The minister also asked the students who received scooters to wear helmets and follow road safety rules. The minister also expressed his hopes that the students who received the award will be inspired with the recognition given by the government and would excel in their studies and contribute towards nation building.
It is pertinent to mention here that around 1,307 students from Cachar district have been found to be eligible to receive the award.
Silchar legislator Dipayan Chakraborty also spoke on the occasion, he said that a lot of changes have been made in the present education system when the present government came into power one and half years ago.
“The present government has given a lot of importance to the education sector and as education is the backbone of a nation and the importance of education in this regard is immense and such a ground-breaking decision was possible for this government,” mentioned Dipayan.
“Our children have never lacked qualifications,” he added.
“There was a lack of opportunity. This time, the government is giving that opportunity,” Dipayan quipped.
Earlier, while talking at the event, Cachar DC Rohan Kumar Jha congratulated the awardees and wished them a bright future.
DC Jha laid stress on the importance of healthy competition amongst students, he motivated the students by saying success always comes with hard work.
DC Jha also lauded the efforts taken by the state government to encourage the meritorious students and said that students should focus on their studies and take this as a motivational factor to achieve success in their life.
Principal of Gurucharan College, Silchar, Bibhas Dev also spoke on the occasion and explained the objective of the programme and spoke at length on Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award, he expressed happiness over the responsibility given to GC College, Silchar to host such a major event and hoped that the students will excel in their careers ahead as a true manifestation of such an important award.
Later, 11 students received scooters along with commendation certificates from minister Suklabaidya and other dignitaries on the occasion.
