BOKAJAN, April 9: As part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, a procession was held in the Bokajan Municipal area in Karbi Anglong for the 108 Bokajan LAC segment.
According to the SVEEP website, “SVEEP is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness, and promoting voter literacy in India. It is a multi-intervention program that reaches out through different modes and media to educate citizens, electors, and voters about the electoral process in order to increase their awareness and promote their informed participation. SVEEP is designed according to the socio-economic, cultural, and demographic profile of the state as well as the history of electoral participation in previous rounds of elections. The Commission produces several voter awareness materials and disseminates the same through various mediums/platforms of communication i.e., print media, electronic media, social media etc.”
The voter awareness procession was led by Surya Saikia and Lakhimi Beypi, prominent citizens of Bokajan, along with a host of 40 women Self-Help Groups.
Starting at 10 am, the procession set out from the compound of the Bokajan Municipal Board and made a round of Ward No 1 to 7.
