SIVASAGAR, Sept 2: Numerous incidents of daring theft have
left Sivasagar police in a fix while leaving the residents with an
increasing sense of insecurity.
The thieves adopted diverse methods in carrying out their
operations during night hours. Thieves entered the apparently
secure campus of a multi-story building and carried away all the
valuables, three phones, jewelry worth Rs 2 lakh, and cash Rs
50 thousand from the rented house of a retired ONGC Officer
Pinaky Das Gupta by spraying chemicals and sending the owner,
his wife, and their son to sleep late into the morning. The
thieves entered through a window and decamped safely
through the main door in the wee hours of August 31.
The scooter of a senior reporter Manoj Gogoi was stolen in
broad daylight by thieves recently from the Veranda of his
residence in Bishnupur, the broken parts of which were
recovered from a scrap dealer’s dump in the town.
One of the thieves was nabbed by the local people when he
tried to enter a campus the next day and was handed over to
the police. The main accused Mobin Ali is absconding. Two
bullet motorbikes were lifted by the thieves recently, one from
near the Peoli Phuuman Stadium and another from near the
Pohugarh on August 27.
Two minor boys stole the money from a ‘dan patra’ of a temple
in ASTC point on the midnight of August 31 which was clearly
visible in the CCTV camera installed nearby. The police are in
search of the boys. The gang of minor boys and girls that spend
the daytime begging near Sivadoul, set out on their nocturnal
expeditions in different areas with the help of the elder
members of the gangs of thieves.
