Three arrested on gang rape charges in Udalguri

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 1: Police in Udalguri district have arrested three men in connection with the alleged gang rape of two minor girls on December 30.

The incident reportedly occurred in the Sikharidanga area, where the accused allegedly forced the victims to consume alcohol before sexually assaulting them at an isolated location.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Inammul Haque of Dalgaon in Darrang district, Azibur Rahman of Benganabari Orang, and Rafiqul Islam of Chengakuti Kacharigaon under Orang police station in Udalguri district.

According to police, the accused took the girls in an Alto car to Bhairabkunda.

During a routine naka checking at Mazbat Lalpani, officers became suspicious and searched the vehicle, recovering incriminating items.

On questioning, the victims disclosed that they had been taken against their will and assaulted.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the accused have been produced before the court.

A senior police officer said that naka checking has been intensified across the district on the eve of the New Year, which led to the arrest of the three suspects.
