Dr Rongpi, a former spokesperson of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) recently joined the BJP and is reportedly seeking a party ticket from Nilip for the ensuing Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election.

Dr Rongpi joined the BJP on May 13 last in presence of president of BJP Assam Pradesh, Bhabesh Kalita; president of BJP-East Karbi Anglong District Committee, Dhansing Teron and chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang at BJP-EKADC office here.

The ‘Team Nilip’ led by former MAC Semson Tisso and former president of Karbi Students Association, Bijoy Bey, Barnabas Killing and Khogen Terang have opposed Dr Rongpi’s candidature from Nilip.

In a press conference held here at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong, the former MAC Semson Tisso said, “We have come to know that Dr. Mongve Rongpi is seeking a BJP ticket from Nilip MAC constituency. We are opposing it, as we don’t want a person from outside to come and contest elections here. As a person, we are not against Dr Rongpi, but we are opposing his candidature as he is not a resident of Nilip. We want a candidate from Nilip.”

Urging the BJP leaders not to give a party ticket to Dr Rongpi from Nilip, the former MAC Tisso appealed to the BJP’s district and state leadership not to give a party ticket to Dr Mongve from Nilip and that they don’t want the sitting MAC Pobitra Rongpi either.
