MARGHERITA, Oct 3: Trade unions, including Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha (BMS), and Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU), organised a 2-hour dharna at the office of the general manager of North Eastern Coalfields Coal India Ltd (NEC CIL) in Margherita. They were protesting various pressing issues faced by NEC CIL Margherita employees.

Bharat Bhushan Borthakur, president of PKMS (BMS), mentioned that employees at all Coal India Ltd collieries are currently protesting against the management of Coal India Ltd. The reason behind these protests is the delay in salary disbursement, which will create problems for employees during the festive season. This issue has arisen due to actions by some higher officials of Coal India Ltd in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. In response, it has been decided that from October 12 to 14, all employees of Coal India Ltd in Margherita will not report to work.

Sanjib Baruah, vice president of Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU), stated that according to the NCW 11 agreement, all employees and workers are entitled to receive their salaries on time. Unfortunately, in this festive season, employees are not receiving their salaries, and they demand that the chairman of Coal India Ltd release the salaries immediately. If their demands are not met, they will intensify their agitation with further protests at the office of the general manager of NEC Coal India Ltd in Margherita. A memorandum outlining their concerns was submitted to the general manager of NEC CIL Margherita.
