NAGAON, May 21: Amidst the row over the mysterious ‘death’ of SI Junmoni Rabha across the state, the urgent transfer and posting of SP Leena Doley and ASP Tridib Kumbang in the same status to different districts of the state has drawn a mixed reaction among the people of the small town here, as the new transfer and postings of these two senior police officers, initiated by Dispur, will hamper the entire process of free and fair investigation of the mysterious ‘death’ case of SI Junmoni Rabha.

It is pertinent to mention here that in her FIR, Sumitra Rabha, the mother of the deceased SI, mentioned the names of SP Leena Doley, ASP Tridib Kumbang, OC, Dhing Raja Irshad, and SI Abhajyoti Rabha several times while depicting the sequences as well as co-incidences that occurred just before and after the suspicious road mishap on that fatal night.

But the higher authority concerned with Assam police closed only two to three officers among them to the police headquarters in Guwahati, relaxing SP Leena Doley and ASP Tridib Kumbang, which apparently intensified suspicions about a free and fair investigation into the case among the people of the small town here. Many of them opined that they could be closed to the police headquarters in the greater interest of a free and fair investigation into the case instead of being transferred and posted to other districts in the same power and position by the authority concerned, the state Department of Home Affairs.

Some conscious people who are reluctant to publish their names in the media here alleged that both the senior cops had a strong hold at Dispur and managed to stay in the same status in different districts, which would help them to be away from the entire investigation into the case. As a result, the investigation of the case will go in the other direction, and it will remain as clueless as they feared.

Sumitra Rabha, the bereaved mother of the deceased SI, asserted that SP Leena Doley and ASP Tridib Kumbang quizzed her child for long in the evening on that fatal night. Besides, when she was staying helpless alone at the quarter after trying several times to contact her daughter over phone, SP Leena Doley, ASP Tridib Kumbang, and other police personnel forcefully entered the quarter and carried out a surprise raid. During the raid, the police team led by SP Leena Doley vandalised all bags as well as other belongings to them and seized over Rs 1.30 lakhs being kept by Sumitra Rabha for her ailing son and Rs 3 lakhs kept by her daughter, SI Junmoni Rabha, from the quarter.

Moreover, the police team also took Sumitra’s thump print on a blank piece of paper. Eventually, early in the morning on May 16, Raja Irshad, OC Dhing PS who accompanied SP Leena Doley during the surprise raid at just before the mysterious ‘death’of SI Junmoni Rabha, again came to the quarter of SI Junmoni Rabha and took another thump print on another blank piece of paper.
