KAAC celebrates 71st foundation day

DIPHU, June 23: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) celebrated its 71st foundation day here on Thursday.

The celebration started with paying of homage to the former leaders of the district like first CEM of erstwhile Mikir Hills District Council, Kharsing Terang; Semson Sing Engti and founding president of Karbi Adorbar, Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) by the chairman, KAAC, Raju Tisso and chief executive member (CEM), Tuliram Ronghang.

The Council was formed with the name Karbi Anglong District Council on November 17, 1951. Later, it was changed to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council on June 23, 1952.

At the KAAC Secretariat, chairman Tisso hoisted the national flag and sang the national anthem in the presence of Members of Autonomous Council (MACs).

At Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Town Hall, Matipung, where the celebration was held, Ronghang called for unity in making a ‘new Karbi Anglong’.

Addressing the meeting, CEM Ronghang said, “We want to establish peace, unity and all round development in Karbi Anglong. We want to make a ‘new Karbi Anglong’ and I appeal to all communities, social organisations, political parties and intellectuals to come forward to lend your support.”

HAD minister of the hill districts, Jogen Mohan attending the KAAC foundation day said, “To solve the problems of the hill we all have to work together and should not just shove it all to the Council. There should be proper implementation of government work.”

“There is peace, people are flogging over here. I have been the Guardian minister for one year and everybody should shoulder one’s responsibility. The Prime Minister himself has come here and laid the foundation stone of several projects and the Council has to see to its implementation,” he said.

The HAD minister said that as soon as the Council submits their proposal, funds will be released by the state government. There is development, but there should be more development under this Council. Development should reach every nook and corner of Karbi Anglong and take into it all communities.

The celebration was attended by chairman of KAAC Raju Tisso; MP Horensing Bey; Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Dr Nuaml Momin; minister Nandita Garlosa; MLAs Bidyasing Engleng and Dorsing Ronghang and MACs.

Our Correspondent from Hamren adds: In Hamren, the district headquarter of West Karbi Anglong the 71st foundation day of KAAC was also celebrated at KAAC Branch Secretariat. MLA Rupsing Teron; ex MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi and Karbi traditional king Ram Sing Ronghang participated in the celebration.
