Two Held With Drugs Worth Rs 8 Crore

BOKAJAN, July 31: In yet another major crackdown on drug smuggling, the Assam police seized a huge quantity of heroin from a private car along the Assam-Nagaland border in Karbi Anglong on Sunday.

As per reports, the Assam police based on specific information regarding the movement of drugs along the NH 39, intercepted a Maruti Swift car bearing registration number WB 74P 4456 and on thoroughly checking the vehicle the police recovered 75 soap cases containing approximately 1-kilogram heroin concealed under the rear seat of the vehicle.

Police have estimated the value of the seized drugs to be over Rs 8 crore in the black market. The police also arrested both the occupants of the vehicle identified as 35-year-old Solomon Thuer and 25-year-old Simon Thuer in this connection.

“Both are residents of Meluri under Phek district in Nagaland. They carried the drugs from Dimapur and used a lesser known route to enter Assam by passing the Khatkhati check post. The consignment was supposed to be further transported through the railways from the Bokajan station,” SDPO, APS, John Das said.

The operation was carried out by SDPO Bokajan, APS, John Das, and was assisted by OC of Bokajan Insp Mwblik Brahma, OC Khatkhati police station, SI (UB), Raju Duwarah, ASCOM Rabi Gill C20 CRPF and PS staff.
