GUWAHATI, Sept 25: Union power minister of India, RK Singh, has allocated an additional 179 MW of power to the state of Assam. This decision comes after chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, met with Union power minister RK Singh in Delhi on September 9, where he highlighted the unprecedented 26 percent increase in power demand due to the growth of productive sectors in the economy.
The allocation is being made from NTPC’s Dadri-I Plant, with the power previously allocated to Haryana up to September 30, 2023. The allocation to Assam will be effective from October 1, 2023, for a period of one year at the CERC determined tariff.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his gratitude to Union power minister RK Singh on social media, stating, “My heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Union Power Minister Shri @RajKSinghIndia ji for considering my personal request and allocating an additional 179 MW of power to the State. We are committed to ensuring adequate supply of power to industries and households that fuels the Assam growth story.”
CM Sarma also mentioned that load shedding is being closely monitored, and they are working on increasing MW in partnership with various businesses to provide continuous power supply to the residents.
The additional allocation of power is expected to help meet the increasing energy demands in Assam and support the state’s economic development.
