Woman drug peddler held with 3 Kg cannabis in Khatkhati raid

BOKAJAN, May 2: In a major crackdown on narcotics, Khatkhati Police apprehended a woman drug peddler and seized over 3 kg of suspected cannabis during a targeted raid in the Lahorijan area of Karbi Anglong district on Saturday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police team conducted the operation around 4:00 PM at a rented accommodation near Lahorijan Line Hotel.

The raid was led by Officer-in-Charge Surya Bora, along with Sub-Inspector Debasish Bora, Priyanka Bordoloi and other personnel.

During the search, police recovered approximately 3 kg 36 grams of cannabis, packed into 97 small packets allegedly meant for distribution.

A cash amount of ₹66,200, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales, was also seized from the premises.

The accused has been identified as Uma Devi, a resident of New Settlement area in Lahorijan.

She has been taken into custody.

Police officials described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.

“This operation marks a major success in our continued drive against narcotics,” a police spokesperson said.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the supply network and identify other individuals involved in the illegal trade.
