Workshop On Making Gps TB And Tobacco Free

JORHAT, March 22: As part of the ‘Moromor Jorhat’ initiative of the district administration, a workshop on making gaon panchayats (GPs) TB and tobacco-free, was organised by the Jorhat District Health Society at the zilla parishad auditorium here on Tuesday.
A district administration official informed that the workshop, presided over by the Jorhat Zilla Parishad president Ranjan Saikia, and attended by GP presidents, was addressed by the Jorhat deputy commissioner Pulak Mahanta.

The deputy commissioner urged the participants of the programme and all sections of the society to unitedly work together to realise the dream of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to eliminate TB in India.

The deputy commissioner appreciated the president of Number 28 Meleng Balichapori GP president Durlav Chetia for his contributions towards making the GP TB-free under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).

District TB officer Dr Dr Bhaktimay Bhattacharyya, who was the resource person in the programme spoke about the disease (TB), its causes and treatment available under government health services. Dipti Saikia, District Tobacco Control Cell, psychologist, told the participants about ways that could be adopted to give up tobacco consumption. Earlier, joint director, health services (Jorhat) Dr Shashidhar Phukan gave the welcome address.
Jorhat Zila Parishad CEO Pranab Kumar Baruah, additional deputy commissioner (Health) Damodar Barman was amongst the special guests in the programme, the official added.
