SIVASAGAR, July 23: The Salaguri Mukul Sahitya Sabha, in collaboration with Salaguri HS School, Sivasagar, successfully organised a two-day workshop focused on ‘Writing and Basics of Journalism’ in the school auditorium. The workshop was inaugurated by the esteemed former principal of Sibsagar Girls’ College, Buddhin Mishra, on Friday.
Mishra praised the organisers for selecting a topic that holds significant importance in today’s modern society. He emphasised that writing and journalism have become dominant factors, and proficiency in these fields requires a solid understanding of L1 grammar, along with dedicated study of literature. He encouraged students aspiring for a career in journalism to focus on both grammar and literature to excel in competitive journalism. According to Mishra, in the contemporary media world, a certificate or degree alone does not guarantee success; true mastery of the craft is essential.
The first session of the workshop featured Manoj Kumar Borthakur, a seasoned journalist, as the resource person. Borthakur stressed the importance of L1 grammar knowledge as a prerequisite for excelling in journalism in L2. He urged students to dedicate themselves to studying grammar and literature to increase their chances of success in competitive journalism.
The following day, Jayjyoti Gogoi, secretary of the Sivasagar district Journalists Association (SDJA), addressed the students on various opportunities, challenges, and facilities available in print media, e-media, new media, and other media outlets. He advised the students to conduct objective analyses of their dreams regarding journalism and consider other career prospects as well.
The workshop witnessed contributions from various dignitaries, including Haren Chandra Nath, president of Salaguri Mukul Sahitya Sabha, Monmohan Nath, principal of Salaguri HS School, Debajit Dutta, senior teacher, Koncheng Rajkumar, treasurer of SDJA, and Saurov Neog, teacher.
