GUWAHATI, July 6: Xiaomi India, the leading smartphone and smart TV brand in the country, is commemorating nine years of its remarkable journey in India. The brand has become synonymous with innovation and has won the hearts of millions of Indian consumers. On this special occasion, Xiaomi India released a report highlighting its significant contributions to society over the years.
With a strong commitment to social responsibility, Xiaomi India has consistently worked towards societal development, particularly in the areas of education, skill development, and the environment. The brand firmly believes in leveraging technology to improve people’s lives and make a positive impact on society.
Throughout its nine-year journey, Xiaomi India has achieved several key milestones:
Mi Scholarship Programme: In 2020, Xiaomi India partnered with “Buddy4Study” and pledged INR 2 crores for scholarships under the Mi Scholarship program. This initiative provided scholarships to 5000 underprivileged students, ensuring that financial constraints did not hinder their pursuit of higher education.
ShikshaHarHaath: Xiaomi India launched the “ShikshaHarHaath” program in partnership with Bollywood celebrity and philanthropist SonuSood in 2021. This program aimed to provide education to underprivileged children and enable them to access digital learning through smartphones, ensuring equal opportunities for quality education.
Education support during Covid-19: In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Xiaomi India provided 2,500 smartphones to underprivileged children in partnership with Teach for India. This initiative bridged the digital divide and ensured that these children could access online education, enabling uninterrupted learning.
Education for cancer survivors: Xiaomi India collaborated with the YouWeCan Foundation in 2022 to support the education of 200 cancer survivor children by covering their educational expenses. This initiative emphasized the brand’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and equal educational opportunities.
Cauvery Calling campaign: In collaboration with the Isha Foundation, Xiaomi India launched the “Cauvery Calling” campaign, aiming to address critical environmental issues. Through this initiative, the brand planted 1.8 lakh trees over two consecutive years (2019 and 2020), contributing to the restoration of forests and the conservation of water resources.
Solar electrification project: Xiaomi India partnered with United Way India to provide sustainable energy solutions to rural communities in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. This intervention empowered the communities with zero wood/zero fossil fuel cooking, clean water, and sustainable agriculture, leading to net-zero energy communities for over 1500 people across five villages.
Skill development of the transgender community: Recognizing the importance of empowering marginalized communities, Xiaomi India joined forces with United Way India to enhance the skills and employability of transgender individuals. This collaborative project aims to create inclusive environments by providing necessary training and assistance to enable transgender persons to lead fulfilling lives.
Skill Development: Xiaomi India has actively engaged in various initiatives to promote skill development, training, employment, and livelihood among the youth. Through partnerships with organizations like GlobalHunt Foundation and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Xiaomi India supports skill development in mobile repair and entrepreneurship, equipping individuals with practical skills and enhancing their employability prospects.
Innovative Tinkering Labs for Students: Xiaomi India, in collaboration with United Way India, has introduced Innovative Tinkering Labs (ITL) in educational institutions. These labs serve as creative hubs, fostering a culture of innovation, problem-solving, and hands-on learning experiences. By nurturing a generation of innovators and entrepreneurs, Xiaomi India contributes to the nation-building process.
