New Delhi, April 28: At a press conference in New Delhi, Atishi, a key Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of banning their campaign song, ‘Jail ka jawab vote se.’
She suggested that the song’s negative representation of the ruling party and government agencies led to the ban. Atishi expressed concerns over what she sees as autocratic tendencies in the government, with examples of opposition leaders being jailed and obstructed from running their election campaigns.
She criticised the ECI’s decision as potentially biased towards the ruling party. She pointed out the apparent double standards in the ECI’s actions, with the BJP’s reported breaches of the Model Code of Conduct seemingly overlooked, while the AAP’s campaign song faced strict scrutiny and censorship.
Atishi also noted the lack of direct references to the BJP in the AAP’s song, which focuses on the theme of ‘dictatorship’ rather than attacking any specific political group. However, the ECI found the song objectionable, leading Atishi to question the commission’s impartiality and dedication to ensuring a fair electoral process.
