New Delhi, April 2: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday appointed Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana as the country’s youth icon.
The official YouTube and X handles of the ECI shared a video where Ayushmann made an appeal to the people of India. The ECI assigns the role of a youth icon to a Bollywood icon to promote voting.
This year, ahead of the Lok Sabha general elections, they assigned this responsibility to Ayushmann Khurrana. On Tuesday, Ayushmann shared the ECI’s video on his official X account, urging people to vote in the upcoming polls.
He stated that elections would be held in various states across the country in different phases and asked the people to take a day out to vote. He described the Lok Sabha polls as a festival that should be celebrated by casting one’s vote.
The appointment of Ayushmann Khurrana, whose films often address social issues and challenge taboos and myths, is seen as a significant move. Rajkumar Rao was previously appointed as a National Youth Icon by the polling body.
