Murshidabad, April 17: A blast occurred during a Ram Navami rally in the Saktipur area of the Murshidabad district, West Bengal, causing injury to a woman, according to PTI. She was immediately taken to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
The cause of the blast is still under investigation, with the police yet to confirm if it was a bomb or due to some other reason. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed for peace, prosperity and development, a statement that received criticism from a BJP member.
BJP leader Amit Malviya alleged that last year’s Ram Navami in West Bengal saw large scale violence due to Banerjee’s provocative speeches.
Banerjee has been cautioning people against falling into BJP’s alleged trap of using the Ram Navami festivities to instigate clashes and pave the way for an NIA investigation. Both TMC and BJP leaders, along with hundreds of participants, were part of Ram Navami processions across West Bengal on Wednesday.
