3 held with arms, ammunition, explosives in Manipur

IMPHAL, May 24 (NNN):  Three persons were arrested by the security forces in Manipur’s Imphal West district bordering Kangpokpi district with a huge quantity of arms and ammunition on Tuesday night, around 9.30pm.

According to police, the arrested persons have been identified as Luntinsang Chongloi (33) of Leilon Pheijang Vaiphei village of Kangpokpi district, Thangneimang Khaute Vaiphei (63), son of Late Lanjahao Vaiphei of the same village and one Lunsiamlen Vaiphei (19), son of Haominthang Vaiphei.

Two each of single bore guns and double bore guns, one folding butt double bore gun, 280 live round of 12 bore (Shaktiman) gun, 81 rounds of 12 bore (Agni) gun, six packets of 200 ammunition of air gun ammunition and five local made bombs were recovered from them, the police said.

A combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and 22 Assam Rifles on frisking and checking duty in hill-valley border area at Kangchup Chingkhong under Lamshang police station of Imphal West district arrested the three persons with the arms and ammunition.

The combined team recovered the arms and ammunition during a check to the vehicle (Alto car) they came with, the police also said. A cash amount of Rs 3,760 was also recovered from the trio, the police added.

During preliminary verification, the police came to know that the trio collected the arms and ammunition from Churachandpur district.

The Lamshang police has initiated an investigation against the trio after registering a case, the police further added.
