Four drug traffickers arrested in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, June 24: Four drug traffickers have been arrested with heroin in East Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya on Monday.

They have been identified as Sahin Hussain Laskar, Rofiqul Alom Laskar, Mamta Sinha and Maya Gwala. While Sahin Hussain Laskar, Rofiqul Alom Laskar, Mamta Sinha hail from Cachar district in Assam, Gwala is a resident of Pynthorbah in Shillong, police said.

Acting on information that two persons along with one lady were travelling in a private car from Silchar carrying illegal contrabands, a naka was set up at Umtyra by ANTF team of East Jaintia Hills, the police also said. The vehicle was stopped and a search was conducted in the presence of witnesses. 15 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 164.99 grams were found tied in the legs of the lady, the police further said.

Initial interrogation was done and it was revealed that the consignment was to be delivered to Maya Gwala alias Puchki, who was also arrested in Khliehriat, the police also said.

A case was registered with the Khliehriat Police Station and further investigation is on, the police added. (NNN)
