Manipur Police Along With Central Forces Dismantle 12 Illegal Bunkers

IMPHAL, Dec 30: Manipur police, in its ongoing joint combing operations with the central security forces, dismantled as many as 12 illegal bunkers along the Imphal East-Kangpokpi inter-district border on Saturday, said police.

As per police, the combined team also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during the operation.

A combined team of Imphal East district police, CRPF and Assam Rifles under the supervision of Imphal East SP Dr S Ibomcha Singh conducted the combing operation at Mother Ridgeline of Leitanpokpi top to Purum Likli Hill starting from 7am on Saturday.

During the operation, 12 bunkers were destroyed while a cache of arms and ammunition was found inside one of the bunkers at the western hill slope of Purum Hill towards Gangpijang village which falls under the jurisdiction of Saikul police station of Kangpokpi district,Ā police also said.

The recovered arms and ammunition were one CMG, nine 36HE hand grenades, 15 tube launching, 12 tube launching ring, 12 HD carts, four grenade caps, 16 old 36 HE hand grenades, one grenade key and 36 mini flare green carts.

ā€œThe recovered arms and ammunition were handed over to Saikul police station where a case was registered for investigation,ā€ police added.

In the strife-torn Manipur, the police in close coordination with the state and the central security forces have been conducting combing operations in fringe and vulnerable area of violent affected districts to recover illegal arms and ammunition in the possessions of the miscreants and also to recover arms and ammunition looted from the police and state security forces during the initial stage of the ethnic conflict.
