IMPHAL, May 14: People in Manipur richly paid tributes today to constable Deepak Chingakham of the 7th Battalion, BSF, who was killed in a drone attack in Jammu and Kashmir on May 10.
Constable Chingakham, killed in a drone strike at Kharkhola BOP, was honored with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal.
Among those paying their respects were Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, senior government officials, legislators, and political leaders, all united in grief for Chingakham.
A mass procession accompanied Constable Chingakham’s mortal remains on their final journey to his birthplace in Yairipok Yambem, Imphal East district.
Along the route, a multitude offered heartfelt tributes to the fallen hero.
The Manipur government has announced an ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakh under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (P) scheme, extending support to Constable Chingakham’s bereaved family. (NNN)
