SHILLONG, Dec 17: Meghalaya education minister Rakkam A Sangma recently referred to the recent threat issued by a Hindu based organization of blocking key roads of Meghalaya as very unfortunate.
“I always used to say that religious groups never make threats and they are not the proper group to give such threats, this is unfortunate. Look, religion is for peace. We worship God for peace and harmony for individuals, for the family and for the community,” Sangma told reporters.
The Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) had issued a 10-day ultimatum recently for the Meghalaya government to reopen the Mawjymbuin Cave for Hindu rituals. The group has warned of blocking key roads of Meghalaya, including Jorabat near Guwahati, if their demand is not met before Christmas.
“I think a religious group threatening like this doesn’t sound good, does not give a good message and (that) they are not real religious group,” Rakkam Sangma said.
He also stated that the Hindu group should respect local sentiments. (NNN)
