ITANAGAR, April 20: In a significant crackdown under the ongoing anti-drug campaign Operation Dawn 2.0, police teams from Nirjuli and Papu Hills carried out two separate operations on April 19, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of a total of 51.45 grams (gross) of suspected heroin, said an official statement issued on Sunday.
In Nirjuli, acting on credible intelligence, a police team led by SDPO Naharlagun Rishi Longdo and comprising Inspector TM Nekam (OC PS Nirjuli), SI G Tok, and other personnel conducted naka checking at Dikrong Colony.
During the operation, two individuals on a two-wheeler were intercepted.
According to the statement, the accused were identified as Almaz Ali (20), a resident of Bedlangkhaili, PS-Panbari, Chirang district, Assam, and Ajaharul Islam (21), from Pandhuwa, PS-Nowboicha, Lakhimpur district, Assam.
Upon personal search, the police recovered 12 vials and one tobacco container containing suspected heroin weighing 30.42 grams.
In a separate operation near the Railway Station at Tarajuli, Papu Hills Police, acting on specific input about drug activity in the area, apprehended one individual.
The team, led by Inspector Torum Mai (OC PS Papu Hills) and including Inspectors G Basar, B Sumnyan, SI AK Jha, and Constable P Halder, arrested Roshidul Hoque (27), a native of Bishnupur, PS-Laluk, North Lakhimpur district, Assam, currently residing in Niti Colony, Yupia-II.
A personal search of the suspect led to the recovery of five vials of suspected heroin.
Further interrogation revealed the presence of additional contraband hidden at his residence, leading to the recovery of 11 more vials.
The total weight of the substance seized in this operation was 21.03 grams.
Two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered at Nirjuli and Papu Hills Police Stations in connection with the seizures.
Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo, IPS, who supervised the operations, lauded the efforts of the police teams for their swift action and commitment to tackling the drug menace in the region.
