AGARTALA, Aug 27: In a significant operation against illegal cross-border activity, Tripura Police detained six individuals, including five Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian agent, in Agartala’s Nandan Nagar area on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off about suspicious activity in the locality, the police launched an investigation, uncovering what appears to be a network facilitating illegal entry into India.
According to a police officer from New Capital Complex Police Station, the five Bangladeshi nationals had entered Tripura several months ago. Upon being interrogated, they initially tried to mislead investigators, but further probing revealed their illegal status.
Police discovered Bangladeshi currency in their possession, and the group eventually confessed to crossing the international border without proper documentation.
The Indian accomplice, identified as Ishan Ali, hails from Murshidabad in West Bengal. Police believe Ali played a key role in assisting the foreign nationals with their illegal border crossing. All six individuals will be presented before the court for further legal proceedings.
