GUWAHATI, March 19: The sixth edition of the Guwahati Open Junior Tennis Championship – 2023, a flagship tournament of the state, organised by Guwahati Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) got off to a colourful start at the RG Baruah Sports Complex, Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.
Altogether 150 players from the various parts of the region are taking part in it. The championship is being held for both Boy’s and Girl’s Singles (under 12, 14, 18 years and Boy’s / Girl’s Combined (under 10 years) respectively. The championship is carrying a total of 2.10 lakhs (Rupees Two Lakhs Ten Thousand) only as cash scholarship.
Cash scholarship will be awarded to the players from quarter-finals stages in all categories The championship is sponsored by the Pride-East Entertainment Private Limited, Oil India Limited, Numaligarh Refinery Limited and sports goods manufacturer HEAD.
Justice (Retd.) PG Agarwala, veteran eminent sportsman and sports organiser Pradip Chaliha, senior journalist and sports organiser Pranay Bordoloi were present in the function as guests of honour. In the function veteran tennis player and former state champion Shyamange Rajkhowa was felicitated for his immense contribution in the field of tennis.
Till the filing of the report, matches of Boy’s/Girl’s (Combined) Singles – Under 10 years and Boy’s Singles – Under 12 years were underway.
