18th edition of Captain Jintu Gogoi Vir Chakra Memorial Football tournament from Feb 15

Guwahati, Feb 13: The much-anticipated grand inaugural ceremony of the 18th
Captain Jintu Gogoi Vir Chakra Memorial Football tournament will be held on 15th February 2023 at Nehru Maidan, Duliajan. This exciting football tournament promises to bring together some of the best football teams from the 8 Northeastern states, providing a showcase of incredible talent and competition.

The tournament, which is organised by the Spear Corps Division of the Indian Army in association with Oil India Limited as a tribute to Kargil Martyrs and Assam’s ‘Bir Chilarai’ Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra will feature several exciting matches scheduled from 15th to 22nd February 2023 and promises to be a thrilling experience for football fans of all ages. Spectators can expect high-quality matches, nail-biting moments, and a fantastic atmosphere as the teams battle it out on the pitch.

The Captain Jintu Gogoi Vir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament will feature 24 teams, each consisting of 11 players. The tournament will be held across various locations, including Duliajan, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Digboi offering fans the chance to witness high-level football. The final match will be held on 22 February 2023, providing a thrilling conclusion to this highly-anticipated event.

Over the years, this tournament has become a staple in the sporting calendar and attracts some of the region’s best amateur and semi-professional football teams. There is an excitement in minds of the public as they can’t wait to see what this year’s tournament has in store.

The tournament will also include a range of off-pitch activities and entertainment programs like Bhangra dance, Mallakhamba, Kalaripayattu, Khukri dance, Jazz- pipe band performance by Army Artists with Bihu & Tangsa cultural display by civil professionals including Skydiving by commandos, stunts by helicopters and a fireworks display.Rajput battalion located in Joypur is organising this grand event in Duliajan.
The tournament will be graced by the presence of many eminent personalities of the state & of the army. In addition to the sporting spectacle, the 18th Edition of the Captain Jintu Gogoi Vir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament will also provide an opportunity for football fans to come together and celebrate their shared love of the game.
