DIPHU, April 30: Jirpo Chingrum Stallions emerged champion of the 1st Karbi Anglong Premier League (KAPL) 2023 (T-20 Cricket Tournament) in a final played at Sports Complex, 5th Miles here on Sunday. The tournament was organised by Karbi Anglong Cricketer’s Association (KACA) in collaboration with Karbi Anglong Sports Association.
In the final between Royal Rhinos and Jirpo Chingrum Stallions, the Jirpo Chingrum won the toss and elected to bat first and set a target of 110 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
Jirpo Chingrum Stallions’ Anil Sharma scored 35 runs and Jitu Timung 28 runs. Chasing the target, Royal Rhinos managed to score 106 runs at the loss of 8 in 20 overs. Jirpo Chingrum Stallions won the final match by 4 runs. The winning team was awarded a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh. The runner’s up team also received a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 50,000.
Man of the Series was awarded to Raju Ghosh of Royal Rhinos, while Man of Match was awarded to Mohendra Timung of Jirpo Chingrum Stallions and fair play was awarded to Kheroni Avengers.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Members (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and president, KASA, Tuliram Ronghang; MLA Bidyasing Engleng along with EMs, KAAC, MACs and Board Chairmen of various development boards of KAAC witnessed the final match. A total of 8 teams participated in the tournament.
In the prize distribution function, the organiser KACA felicitated Mark Ingti, the first Karbi player to play in Ranji Trophy and handed an appreciation letter by KACA general secretary, Premson Bey.
