Five Karbi Anglong players shine in power lifting event

DIPHU, Sept 20:  In the national event of power lifting competition held from September 14 to 18 at Chennai, 5 players from Karbi Anglong and four have bagged Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. The competition has been organised by All India Power Lifting Federation.

Suman Chetry of Thongnokbe Gym, Diphu has bagged one Gold medal, while Tamhidi Rongpipi in 69 kg. the senior category has bagged one Silver medal, Basapi Phangchopi, 69 kg. Master category bagged one Silver medal and Joshmi Beypi in 57 kg. Senior women category bagged one Bronze medal.


The team has reached Diphu Tuesday. Coach,Nikson Kro told media persons that in the national powerlifting competition the players from Karbi Anglong have bagged medals, which is a positive sign for power lifting in Karbi Anglong. The team is fortunate enough to play with players from big states and the participation by players from Karbi Anglong has given a morale boost for the power lifting in Karbi Anglong. It has proved that the youths of the district can also perform at higher levels, Kro said.
