Heavy Squad gym to host ‘Raise the Bar’ powerlifting competition in Diphu

DIPHU, July 17: The Heavy Squad gym in Diphu is all set to host the second edition of its ‘Raise the Bar’ powerlifting competition, featuring the exciting ‘Strongman DeadLift Championship’. The competition, open to both men and women, will be held on August 15 as part of the Independence Day celebrations at Taralangso in Diphu.

Surjo Hanse, the general secretary of The Heavy Squad, shared details about the event. He mentioned that last year, the gym organised the first edition of the ‘Raise the Bar’ powerlifting competition in Diphu. This year, they are introducing the Strongman DeadLift Championship, which is a new addition to the event. Initially, the competition will be held at the district level.

Hanse provided information about the weight categories for both men and women. For men, the weight categories are under 75 kg to 140 kg, under 85 kg to 160 kg, and under 95 kg to 180 kg. For women, the weight categories are under 50 kg to 90 kg, under 60 kg to 100 kg, and under 70 kg to 110 kg.

Muktitam Hazarika, who will serve as the judge for the competition, shared further details. He explained that the lifting technique will be conventional (no sumo), athletes must wear proper sports attire (shorts only), lifting straps will be allowed, and the athlete with the highest repetition in each weight category will be declared the winner. The time limit for each lift will be 60 seconds. The registration fee for participants is Rs 700, and registration forms will be available at The Heavy Squad gym, KASA. The President of The Heavy Squad Gym is Mongolsing Ronghang.

Prodip Kro, a member of The Heavy Squad Gym, mentioned that they have invited Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the President of Karbi Anglong Sports Association, to be the chief guest for the event. The organizers are excited to have him grace the occasion.
