Intra-Regional Sports Meet of Eastern Region II starts at NTPC Bongaigaon

KOKRAJHAR, May 17: The six-day Intra Regional Sports Meet- IRSM of ER-II (Football) 2022 started on Tuesday at NTPC Bongaigaon’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Stadium Salakati in Kokrajhar.

Subrata Mandal, executive director (ED) of NTPC Bongaigaon Salakati inaugurated the event in which four teams of the region participated comprising NTPC Bongaigaon, Darlipalli, Talcher Thermal and Talcher Kaniha.

Speaking on the occasion, Mandal said that the Intra-Regional Sports Meet or IRSM at NTPC started during the late 80s and early 90s and the main aim of the sporting event has been to promote the culture of togetherness, camaraderie and team spirit among the employees.

“The IRSM has been a powerful tool which embodies and empowers us to be a better professional and more importantly a better human being,” he added.

The inaugural event saw march past by all the teams and their contingent and a spectacular torch lighting ceremony in which the captain of the host team Benjamin Simte along with captains of all the participating four teams lit the ceremonial torch. The event also saw the release of a mascot during the event named ‘puhor’ meaning ‘light’ in English which depicted the famous one horned rhinoceros of the state.

The winning trophy was also unveiled during the event. Later, a fair play pledge and a fitness pledge was also administered during the event by Mandal and T Ravinder, GM (O&M).

In the inaugural programme, school kids welcomed the teams and a colourful traditional Bagurumba dance was performed by the local dance troop of the district. The event also paid respect to all the famous footballers of the region and the country.

The first match was played between NTPC Bongaigaon and NTPC Darlipali in which the host team defeated Darlipali 5-0. The events will be played in round robin format among the teams.

The event saw the presence of T Ravinder, GM (O&M), Umesh Singh, GM (FM), D P Patra, GM (Operations), Induri Reddy, GM (Maintenance), Arunashis Das, GM (Projects), Kirti Yadav, AC, Security, M.S.Khandari, AC (Fire), Jayashree Mandal, president, Bardwi Sikhla Ladies Club, and special invitees Lamhao Doungel, additional SP, Kokrajhar, Poonam Pegu, DSP, Kokrakjar.

IRSM is an annual event conducted by NTPC as a part of employee welfare to promote team spirit and togetherness among its power units.

The finale of the tournament will be played on Saturday next.
