NTPC Bongaigaon organises friendly rural cricket match

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 13: A friendly cricket match of Harijan community was held between Salakati, Kokrajhar, BTR, Assam and Cooch Behar, West Bengal region at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, NTPC-Bongaigaon on February 12.

The match had been jointly organised by NTPC-Bongaigaon and Safaikarmi Anusuchit Jati Student Union under CSR initiative of Rural Sports.

Varnali Deka, Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, who was present as chief guest during the concluding ceremony spoke on the noble initiative and role played by the organisation towards development of the society. Deka highlighted the importance of physical health, fitness in addition to education and how sports play a key role in keeping the body and mind fit and agile. S.K.Jha, GM (Fuel Management),NTPC Bongaigaon took pride in hosting the event.

Earlier in the inaugural ceremony, Derhasat Basumatary, MCLA in the presence of Arun Kumar Singh, AGM (Operation),NTPC Bongaigaon Jahangir Hussain, District Project Officer, Deptt. of Education spoke highly of the initiative, which was the first of its kind, organised upon the request of Bhim Basfore, Central President of Safai Karmi to the HR-CSR Dept. and Sports Council of the station.

Basumatary also spoke on the efforts of NTPC and Sports Council in bringing the two teams together under NTPC Bongaigaon towards the noble cause. The winner of the match was Salakati Harijan Team. The Salakari team scored 119 runs in 20 overs and the Cooch Behar team scored 119 runs in 20 overs.

The series was declared level. The final match of the series will be held next month in Siliguri, West Bengal.
