Santosh trophy: Assam, Uttar Pradesh win; Goa play draw against Nagaland

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 3: Assam defeated Tamil Nadu by 5-1 goals in the ongoing 76th Santosh trophy,2022-23 being held at sports authority of India (SAI) STC, Kathalguri in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.

Assam took 2-1 goals’ lead against Tamil Nadu in the first half.

Assam scored two goals in an evenly contested match against Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu reduced a goal by scoring a goal against Assam till the first half with Assam leading by 2-1 goals.

Assam again scored three more goals against Tamil Nadu in the second half that earned 5 goals. Tamil Nadu tried to equalise the goals by scoring goals against Assam, but couldn’t score more goals till the full time and accordingly lost against Assam by 1-5 goals.

In KDSA playground, Uttar Pradesh beat Arunachal Pradesh by 2-0 goals.

In an evenly contested match, Arunachal Pradesh tried to reduce goals by scoring goals, but failed to score any goals against Uttar Pradesh and lost to Uttar Pradesh 0-2 goals till the full time.

The match between Nagaland and Goa was goalless.

The match was held at SAI STC, Kathalguri in Kokrajhar amidst a huge crowd.

Both teams tried to score goals, but couldn’t score any goals till the full time of the match.

Notably, the 76th Santosh trophy,2022-23 for group III matches started from December 28, 2022.

A total six states have participated in the event which is organised jointly by the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Assam Football Association (AFA) and All India Football Federation (AIFF).
