Ferry Boat Capsizes In Dibang River

GUWAHATI: A ferry boat carrying 32 passengers met with an incident of capsizing in the Dibang River near Amarpur Ghat in Tinsukia district, on Wednesday morning. Fortunately, all passengers were successfully rescued by individuals present on the river bank before the boat submerged.

The boat was on its way from Amarpur to the Chapakhowa area when it collided with an underwater wooden structure, causing it to begin sinking. Alert bystanders on the river bank noticed the distressing situation and took immediate action by jumping into the water to save the passengers.

In addition to the ferry boat, a four-wheeler vehicle and two motorcycles were also submerged due to the accident.

The incident drew concern from various quarters, including Assam urban development minister Ashok Singhal, who expressed his distress over the unfortunate event. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
