Four killed in Meghalaya landslide

GUWAHATI, Oct 8: Tragedy struck Pynthor Langtein village in West Jaintia Hills as a landslide, caused by heavy rain, claimed the lives of four individuals. Among the victims were a father, a mother, and their two children. The landslide partially buried their house under mud.

The government has swiftly responded by announcing an ex-gratia payment of Rs 16 lakh to the families of the deceased. This financial assistance will help provide support during this difficult time.

The deputy commissioner of West Jaintia Hills district has been tasked with releasing the ex-gratia funds of Rs 4 lakh per person to the next of kin without delay. Additionally, the block development officer of Thadlaskein C&RD Block has been directed to offer any immediate assistance required.
