Foundation Day Of DPCKA Observed

DIPHU, Feb 8: The District Press Club of Karbi Anglong (DPCKA) on Thursday observed its 7th foundation Day at Recreation Park in Diphu with much enthusiasm.

The programme began with hoisting of its flag led by its president, Diganta Teron while condolence to the departed media persons was led by working president, Swarup Laskar.

Chief guest on the occasion, advocate of Diphu judicial court, Sarthe Ronghi said, “Media plays a significant role in the development of our society, the news should always be authentic and incomplete stories should always be avoided. Morals, ethics and discipline should need to be maintained by media and advocates. The roles of the judiciary and media are similar. Your actions should contribute to the welfare of the society.”

He also said that reporting should have an impact on society as well as the government. Sometimes journalists are mistreated for doing an authentic story. Many journalists have lost their lives while reporting such stories.

Advocate Ronghi said the law is equal for all. For any grievances of journalists one should contact committees that exist to safeguard the interest of journalists. The professions of journalists and advocates are challenging job.

enior journalist and adviser of DPCKA, Sanju Bora said, “A positive story and footwork reporting have to be prioritized. As we serve the public, our work should always be beneficial to the society”.

After the celebration, a general election of DPCKA for the session of 2023-2027 was held, which was conducted by the district information public relation officer (DIPRO), Utpal Dimasa as returning officer and DPCKA advisers Sonju Bora, Dipen Bora as official.

The incumbent president Diganta Teron got 32 votes and was unanimously elected as the new president while defeating contenders Ritish Rongphar (23 votes) and Kiri Ronghang (18 votes). Meanwhile Debojoyti Bora was elected as the new general secretary of DPCKA by winning 23 votes. Bora won with 4 votes and defeated contender Arun Lekthe (19 votes), Denialson Bey (18 votes) and Vivian Longki Rongpi (16 votes). Media persons from across the districts participated in the function.
