5 arrested in connection with BJP’s flag burning

DALGAON, April 25: The Dalgaon police arrested five persons in connection with the burning of BJP’s flag.

The accused have been identified as Muktar Hussain (20), Ainul Hoque (30), Anar Hussain (24), Boga Hoque (21) and Hanif Ali (28). They have been remanded to judicial custody.

These youths had reportedly been hired by the BJP to arrange for people for a meeting in Dalgaon where CM Himanta Biswa Sarma campaigned for Dilip Saikia on Wednesday. After the meeting, these youths blocked National Highway – 15 for hours alleging that they had been harassed. They raised slogans against the BJP and burnt the party flag.

They were supposed to pay Rs 500 for fuel. Later on, Babul Chauhan, president of Koupati Mandal BJP lodged an FIR against them. The police registered a case arrested under section 147/149/153 (A)/ 171 (c)/ 435/283 R/W Section 125 of Representation of People Act 1951.
