New Delhi, May 20: In response to the severe heatwave conditions in Delhi, the city government has mandated all private schools to observe an extended summer vacation until June 30. This decision, effective immediately, aims to safeguard the health and well-being of students amidst the extreme temperatures.

The directive follows an earlier order requiring the Heads of Schools under the Directorate of Education (DoE) to implement a summer break from May 11, 2024, to June 30, 2024, for the academic year 2024-25. Despite this, it was noted that some government-aided and unaided recognized private schools remained operational during the heatwave, prompting the latest mandate.

The official circular from the Delhi government highlighted the ongoing severe heat conditions and reiterated the requirement for schools to comply with the summer vacation schedule. The extension of the summer break to a total of 50 days underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the extreme weather situation and prioritizing the safety of students.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is experiencing unusually high temperatures this summer, with forecasts indicating that the heat will surpass previous years. The government’s proactive measure reflects a necessary response to these challenging climatic conditions.
