JORHAT, Aug 14: As part of the ongoing ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jorhat, and the Jorhat district administration, with support from Central Jail, Jorhat, authorities, handed over national flags to the families of three freedom fighters and martyrs who died in this jail.
The national tricolour, along with a seleng chador and a citation, was handed over to the families of Swahid Kushal Konwar, Swahid Kamala Miri, and Swahid Biju Baishnab by Jorhat district commissioner Pulak Mahanta, District and Sessions Judge P Das, and additional SP Kakoli Banya Baruah, respectively.
DLSA secretary-cum-judicial officer Devojyoti Bhuyan informed that the national flag was given to the families of the three martyrs for hoisting the flag at their residences for the 78th Independence Day celebrations.
Earlier, the Swahid Salam was given by personnel of the 119 Battalion of CRPF Jorhat at the Swahid Bedi of the martyrs.
It may be mentioned here that Swahid Kushal Konwar was hanged at Central Jail, Jorhat, on June 15, 1943, and Swahid Biju Baishnab and Swahid Kamala Miri died at the Central Jail on June 14, 1932, and April 23, 1943, respectively, due to illness.
